Description
Lapis Lazuli
Lapis lazuli is deep blue to violet blue in colour and is often associated with both pyrite and often calcite. It belongs to the silica rock group, rich in the mineral lazurite, which is made up of sodium, aluminium sulphur and silica. An uncommon mineral which is found in metamorphic limestone, the best occurrences are from Afghanistan.
It has been called “The Sapphire of the Ancients”, and is one of the oldest rocks used as a gemstone. Some have referred to lapis lazuli as being like a dark blue night sky with golden stars.
